The family holiday is a much loved British institution, whether it is a weekend in Blackpool or a fortnight in Spain, us Brits love nothing more than getting away from it all.
Changes to the population, prices and temperature shifts all contribute to a change in the way we holiday.
With the family structure for many also changing so too are the requirements for a holiday. For example with an increased rate of divorce more single parent holidays are needed.
Interestingly with their better computer skills, children frequently now research and book the holiday rather than this being done by parents as was traditionally the case.
Here is an infographic detailing the evolution of the family holiday and what the rest of the 21st century may have in store for us when jetting off into the sunset.
