Which Type of Wood Flooring Do You Choose?

Purchasing a deck, patio or house on engineered wood flooring is an easy option for home owners to select. This type of flooring is extremely versatile and provides many benefits to homeowners. There are three types of engineered wood flooring. Let’s explore these three choices and compare their advantages, disadvantages and installation challenges.

Flooring over engineered boards has become increasingly popular in recent years. Homeowners can choose a plank style or a stapled style and install them to their homes. Stapling works well with a lot of remodelling projects. Concrete staining and deck painting can easily be completed when stapled decking is installed.

Deck over vinyl siding is another type of engineered wood flooring that homeowners may choose. Although, installing it is a bit more difficult than over vinyl siding. Vinyl siding easily shows dirt or other stains on the wood surface. You need to make sure that you clean it at least once every few months to maintain the durability of your deck. If you’re looking to buy cedar decking materials for your outdoor space, you may find it helpful to explore reputable suppliers like Quality Cedar Products, who offer a range of high-quality materials for purchase.

Once you purchase your wood floors, you have to put it to the test. During installation, it is crucial that you measure the width and depth properly. You have to make sure that the plank of wood you bought will fit perfectly into the space you have provided and then provide enough support.

Installation is usually a breeze when it comes to this type of flooring. By using screws, nails or staples, it is easier to install and replace the wood. Most people are able to install it by themselves without any problems.

Careful measurements must be made as the panel is very thin and even a few centimetres can make a big difference. You have to make sure that the depth of the deck is not less than that specified by the manufacturer. A minimum of two inches is required to allow the wood to stretch properly.

It is vital that you take all measurements carefully before you install the deck. You have to ensure that you set up the stakes properly. The pressure should be distributed evenly to avoid buckling. Otherwise, the wood may crack.

Wood screws, nails and staples must be placed at the right spot so that they can hold the wood correctly. The wood needs to be pinned firmly in place to prevent warping. You also have to mark the location where you will drill the holes for each screw. Drill holes at the same time that you nail the screws.

Wood that is glue-backed is the best to use for this type of flooring. The glue-backed boards provide better durability and are easy to remove. Glue-backed boards are also resistant to warping.

The glue-backed wood can be trimmed with special tools provided by the manufacturer. This type of wood can be damaged if it is not placed directly on the wooden surface. If you are not comfortable using the special tools, it is advisable to buy engineered wood flooring that is already cut to the exact dimensions you require.

If you are unable to install the wood because of fear of getting hurt, you can install it on its edges and lay out boards across the edge. If you want, you can have a professional install the boards and install the planks. The installation process may take a day or two, depending on the number of pieces that you need to install. You can have it done at a cost that is affordable.

The installation process is simple and the result will look beautiful. It is advised that homeowners install the deck on its end to prevent warping. If you are making a DIY project, a DIY expert is available and you can hire them for your project.

  1. Any tips please about what to do when only part of an engineered wood floor is lifting owing to water damage? We cannot match the flooring now sadly. Also we do not want raised, joining strips to stub our toes on in a big open plan room.
