We can do much better than that Chris and really improve things. I have my beloved Pride Celebrity XL8, she’s 10 years old this month but was in really excellent condition when I purchased her secondhand in Manchester and imported her to Paris FOC on a Flybe lowcost ticket- a great experience it was too.
The XL8 has suspension and tubed tyres – essential for the Paris cobbles. I added seat suspension with a sprung seat post, a secondary 12-volt wiring loom and twin USB power sockets, to charge my phone, charge three LED headlights and four rechargable white/ red flashing mini warning lights – necessary in Paris. I have hardwired an excellent rearview camera and mini monitor to replace the cumbersome mirrors. Fitted a spare wheel to the rear accessory socket. A 1915 bicycle Klaxon for warning mobile phone addict pedestrians and, because mobility scooters are stolen I’ve hardwired in a hidden GPS tracker. Rewire Security were extremely helpful in providing illustrations so that I could adapt its circuit board to better fit in a very small space. Because of heavier than usual battery use I added a much more accurate 27v – 24-volt battery status led metre.
I also added much-needed mud flaps and consequently relocated the rear lighting. You can check out Long John mud flaps for long-lasting protection. All of this has been neatly installed and is all very useful. I have MS but with a chair and kind help to remove and replace the scooter seat, managed to do it all myself.
My Parisian neighbours decided to call her my Rolls Royce, so to their great amusement, I managed to buy a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud boot badge on its chrome plinth from a scrap yard, it just happens to fit the tiller head contours exactly. It’s a joke that Parisians love, so lots of laughs.
