O2 to Offer Customers Location Based Discounts

Mobile phone operator O2 is entering the location-based deals market with a service that uses GPS locations to offer users special discounts from participating local retailers, restaurants and other businesses.

Imagine receiving a range of discounts and offers from restaurants, retailers and others simply by walking down the high street.

Well, that’s what mobile operator O2 is offering its customers with its new Priority Moments service.

By using the GPS chip located in modern phones, O2 is offering participating customers the chance to take up deals that it says could save them up to £105 every month.

The service launches with over 40 individual offers from 30 participating brands covering 3,500 high street outlets across the UK.

Launch deals include half-price Odeon cinema tickets, book discounts at WH Smith and a free glass of prosecco and dough sticks at Zizzi.

For iPhone and Android users, Priority Moments is available as a free app download while other customers with a WAP-enabled handset are able to access the service by visiting a mobile website from their phone.

Customers can also access the Priority Moments app by texting “Moments” to 2020 from their O2 phone and following the instructions to download it.

Sally Cowdry, O2’s Marketing and Consumer Director, commented: “The key word here is priority. We designed the service to make life easier, cheaper and more enjoyable for our customers. This is not a tactical programme of one-off deals – it’s about building a long-term, nationwide service that benefits both our customers and our partners.”

Moneyhighstreet comments: “For O2 customers looking to save money, the service not only gives you access to a range of discounts in one convenient place, but also when you’re most likely to use them – and this makes it much easier for you to take advantage of offers.

“Moreover, if the service is successful, the range and number of deals available are likely to grow over time.

“For those who aren’t O2 customers, however, you don’t need to switch operators to take advantage of similar services. Daily deals provider Groupon has already branched out into the location-based deals market.”
