Gym or Wii Fit or both?

I’ve joined the millions with a New Year diet and fitness regime. But as I’m sure is the case for many, my personal finance needs to be managed and I’m wondering do I keep my gym membership or use a Wii Fit and balance board?

I’ve been a member of one gym or another for as long as I can remember. I generally make reasonable use of them, albeit my visits per week fluctuate from zero to as many as four – depending on what else is going on.

In the last 6 weeks or so of 2009 my attendance dropped off for a variety of reasons and I began to question whether I should keep my gym membership.

I was delighted (yes really!) to receive a Wii Fit and balance board from my husband for Christmas. This has compounded my questioning of the gym membership – after all it costs a lot each month!

I’ve decided to try both for the moment….. it is New Year and I’m motivated to get the fitness levels up and the weight down. I’ll review things in a couple of months and consider how much I’m using the gym, how the Wii Fit is working out for me and what my pocket can stand financially.

So what’s the status so far on the Gym and Wii Fit usage?

So far this New Year I’ve been to a spinning class at the gym and spent a session doing a workout, mainly on the treadmill and just a couple of weights. So far so good.

I’ve set up the Wii Fit and registered all my details and it has kindly calculated my BMI – towards the end of OK so quite pleased with that. Don’t want to let the BMI go any higher though!

I’ve tried a few of the balance exercises – amazingly good and surprisingly ended up with quite a glow (being a ‘lady’ of course I don’t sweat, just glow). I also did a jog which was hilarious. Very realistic. I only started off with a short distance and certainly now want to do more.

I need to explore more of the programs available and get my fitness plan together.

So it’s only 4th January and I feel quite good about my fitness progress, well at least the effort put in so far. I’ll keep you posted on how things progress.

Meantime if you’re interested in the Wii Fit and Balance board, you may find our article Wii Fit Plus and balance board – where to find the cheapest deals useful.

Also, if you’re interested, the gym I use is Benton Hall in Witham, part of The Club Company – great place!

Tomorrow I’ll be checking out some more on the Wii Fit – check back to find out how I get on.
